Italy with an "escort"

Recommended Posts

Boys and girls, here are our dates for Italy 2016. You are welcome to tag along for some/part of the trip/route if you wish.

The first date is for motorhomes only due to staying on aires and sostas/camperstops for some/part of the trip and also running via the mountain passes if snow conditions allow. Routed via Switzerland. If however you wanted a coffee companion, you are welcome to find us in resort.

Thursday 14th April - via the tunnel to France - date confirmed.

Wednesday 11th May - P&O ferry from Calais - date confirmed.

Destination: Lake Garda

Main resort: Camping Cappuccini, Peschiera del Garda, booked 22/4 - 1/5. We do not usually book sites but as we wanted a Lake View pitch, we prebooked. We have also pre booked for two other motorhomes.

Second trip - depart UK on or around 28th August (TBC) via the tunnel, routing via Switzerland, 2 x vignette required for caravans, toll free where practical towards Switzerland from Calais.

Return via Calais with P&O 28th September - date confirmed.

Destination: Lake Garda (West, quiet, peace) at Camping Il Faro for a fortnight, then southwards into Tuscany

Caravans welcome.

What this is

1) A chance to go to Italy with people who know the route

2) A chance to "follow" on, if you have never been to Italy or indeed overseas with your van

3) Someone with local knowledge and language

What this isn't

1) An organised tour

2) I am not a tour guide (yes I have sat on coaches for hundreds of thousands of km) but I will help you with maps (borrow) or copies of street maps etc (charged at what ever the photo copies cost)

What you should know

1) This is really a meet with a chance to venture further afield

2) If you come, you are welcome, but if you have a complaint about sites/ferry etc, don't tell me, tell them. This is not an organised tour.

3) You book directly with sites and ferries etc, although in reality you wont need to at that time of year and for the locations we are staying

4) You don't have to pitch with us, or even stay on the same site, just have a route escort if needed.

5) I do not charge anything at all for this.

6) You sort out your own travel and breakdown cover etc, but if you get stuck whilst overseas, an Italian speaker will be on hand!

If for example, you follow to Italy but go home earlier than us etc, you will, if needed, be given details of the easiest route and where to take fuel etc, with suggestions of overnight stops.

It's over to you now, come if you want, don't if you don't!

Russ

Thanks Russ for your generous offer both here and on Caravan Talk. I hope you get some takers with whom to share a glass or two. I suspect we'll not be venturing further than France (Calais problems permitting) but I suspect your sunshine will be warmer further south :)

Gordon.

Any feed back Russell ? How much response you got to join you as it might get further members interested in your good offer and encourage more to venture further .

I think your link needs updating ?

Time marches on, and links soon become out of date. I would loved to have joined Russ (et al) but personal circumstances have prevented extended foreign travel over the last couple of years. As a tourist guide and fluent Italian speaker I feel sure that Russ would have made a great leader/guide  :)

Still a chance for his trip on the 28th August.

Dave

I would love to do that with Russ if I was free - unfortunately I'm not  :(
