need help with info on exhaust for old Fiat Ducato camper

Recommended Posts

HI can anyone help me please as i seem to be going round and round in circles?...I live in the French Alps where it is a  nightmare getting any vehicle repairs done reliably and at a reasonable price....here's the story for anyone with the know-how who might be inclined to help a female in distress:-

i recent;y bought a 1987 Fiat Ducato Dethleffs camper that was going for a song because it had been abandoned in the French Alps after the exhaust had fallen off.  The previous owner could not afford to repair or repatriate it to UK, so he did not keep the old bit that fell off and now I am having a problem finding a replacement.  It was manufactured & converted in Germany in 1987 before being exported to UK

It doesnt help matters that after abandoning it, previous owner declared it as permanently exported from UK, hence it doesnt always come up when you search by the number plate because it no longer exists in the UK vehicle reg system....

I have replaced the 2 middle sections of the exhaust but the mechanic who advised me what bits to order only told me to order the 2 middle sections ( 2 separate boxes), which are now fitted...BUT he didnt tell me I would need a further bit being the rear end.

The problem is 3-fold:

1) I dont know if I just need a rear pipe or a rear pipe that also incorporates yet another box/silencer ???

2) I dont know (and cant seem to find answer on the web) whether the exhaust should exit from the rear or the side of the vehicle (Ive trawled the internet looking for diagrams/images etc but to no avail).

3) whatever the part is that I need, Im not getting anywhere on info with this locally/in France, so I need t get t from UK and ship it to FRance (my local garage simply shrugged their shoulders, told me Fiat dont make them anymore so they cant get one and they cant find out anything about so go away kind of thing)

I would be so happy if some kind fellow member who knows about these things...or who happens to have the same vehicle could please get in touch to help me.

Thanks in advance, yours hopefully

Jane

I do not know if you have exhaust specialists like we do in the UK, as ours will make and fit a system if they cannot get a replacement.

Hi Jane

Do you have picture of your exhaust as is so can see which bit you need. Exhaust exit will be on the right hand side about 4 to 6ft behind door pillar I see yours is a 2.5D  , I have a 1991 Ducato 2.5TD  and recently got an exhaust so can easily go and get part number for you. They are still made and listed in UK by Klarius but for the low floor version you have to bend the tailpipe down to clear the body.

The part you need is availiable on the bay too

That's what I do on older motorhomes and vehicles that are hard to get exhaust parts .

I find I can usually get a stainless exhaust made up at half the price and last the life of the vehicle.
